Roughly 12 months ago, when I was 23 years old and 1 year post-partum with my beautiful daughter, I noticed a large lump in one of my breasts. I was aware of my family history of breast cancer, so I booked in to my Doctor and requested to have genetic testing. After multiple trips to the closest major city, many blood tests and MRIs, I discovered I carry the BRAC2 gene and have multiple suspicious lumps in both of my breasts. I am actively in the process of determining whether these lumps are a risk to my health and life and am looking into undergoing a double mastectomy with the possibility of a total hysterectomy in the future. My reason for participating in this challenge is to ensure that when my baby girl eventually needs to go through a similar process, there will be improved methods, technology and outcomes for her. I want to provide funds and awareness for the future of my family and all the families impacted by breast cancer nationally and world-wide.
