This August, I’m stepping up to the 168km challenge to raise funds for breast cancer research in her honour. My sister and I are doing this challenge in support of our mum, and for all the other women that this horrible illness impacts 🩷
I’m walking for my mum who survived breast cancer last year as well as for all the people out there who are still battling and for those who put up a strong fight!
Why I'm Walking 168 km This year, I'm challenging myself to walk 168 kilometres for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. I'm walking for every grandmother, mother, sister, daughter, aunty, niece, cousin, partner, wife, friend, colleague, neighbour—and for every family whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. Breast cancer doesn't just affect one person. It impacts the people who love them, stand beside them, and support them through every step of their journey. Most of us know someone who has faced breast cancer, whether they're still fighting, celebrating remission, or remembered with love. My goal of 168 km represents more than just distance. Every day, 1 in 56 women are diagnosed with breast cancer. I’m walking this distance times three to represent the many women impacted by this disease and to remind us all how important awareness, research and early detection are. Every kilometre is a reminder of the strength, courage and resilience shown by those affected by breast cancer, and of the importance of continuing to fund life-saving research. But this challenge is also about raising awareness. Please know your normal. Check your boobs regularly. Don’t ignore changes, and make sure you keep up with your breast screening and health checks. Early detection can save lives. If you're able to support my fundraiser, I'd be so grateful. Every donation, no matter the size, helps fund world-class breast cancer research and brings us one step closer to a future where no one dies from this disease. And even if you can’t donate, please do one thing for me today: check your boobs, book your screening if you’re due, and remind the women—and men—you love to do the same. Every step of my 168 km is for those we’ve lost, those still fighting, the survivors, and the generations to come. Together, we can make a difference. 💗

Shannon
My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 and I will never forget those early days of appointments, tears, the unknown, the surgeries, treatments, countless blood tests and follow up. The side effects of the meds and the change it had on my mom. She still fights, she still stresses and worries, she still has meds and blood tests etc. Since my mom’s diagnosis, I’ve had many friends, moms of friends, colleagues and those in my network experience breast cancer in some form or another. Some are still fighting, others have grown their angel wings. I salute all of those who are fighting or supporting! And I am grateful for continued research to try and help those dear to us. Thank you!
Shelley

Many of my family & friends will know that 6 years ago I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer - 18 days after I retired! Not the retirement plan anticipated but I’m so very lucky that it was picked up after undergoing a breast screening check. After undergoing a full mastectomy and lymph gland removal, I’m now clear and cancer free. Others have not been so lucky. It’s vital that we continue with research and support for both women and men who are diagnosed with breast cancer each and every day! Your support will be greatly appreciated by many. 💞

I'm taking on this challenge to support these incredible people and their families, including my great grandmother and family friend!
I’m taking on this challenge in loving memory of my mum, and in honour of my incredible sister, who is so brave and myself as we navigate prevention after being diagnosed with BRCA 1. Cancer has touched every corner of my family. We have watched loved ones fight with incredible courage, and we have experienced the heartbreak of losing too many to this devastating disease. Every step I take is for them, for their strength, and for their memory. Most of all, I’m doing this for my daughters. My greatest hope is that they never have to face the same journey or carry the same burden. I hope that through continued research, awareness, and support, future generations can look forward to a different story. If you're able to support my fundraiser, no matter how big or small the donation, it will help make a real difference. Thank you for your generosity, encouragement, and for standing with me and so many other families affected by hereditary breast cancer. Together, we can help create a future with more hope and fewer families facing this disease.

I'm stepping up to help raise money for a cause that is very close to my heart. On 14 March 2025, I was diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer. If you asked me how I made it through this past 15 months, I wouldn't even know where to begin. Nothing about these months has been easy. Some days it felt like the ground was disappearing beneath me, like everything caught my breath, there were days where I was strong, sad, angry, confused and always tired. There are days when I wonder whether the side effects out way the benefits of treatment altogether. Some of which are most likely permanent for me. But I'm here still fighting because something inside me refuses to give up! It has tested me harder than anything, but it has also showed I'm stronger than I thought. I've learned not to question the timing. I've learned to be patient through what I don't understand or can't change. Life is shorter than we ever admit, and none of it is guaranteed. So don't wait, do what makes you feel alive, spend time with the people who make you happy and laugh, says yes to the trip, the night out, and most important be present and make time for the people that matter to you. To my incredible family and friends, your unwavering support has provided me the strength I needed during my darkest days. I am truly blessed to have such fabulous people by my side. Life is like the ocean. Sometimes it is calm and steady, sometimes rough and unforgiving. But every rise and fall of the tide carries a lesson, and in the end, it is always beautiful!
miss you more and more everyday granny 💕

My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was in her 20s. She was told she would never be able to have children and that broke her. She fought hard and endured humiliation from people who were supposed to be her friends and loved ones. And because she was strong. Because she didnt give up she survived and had both myself and my brother.

Stepping Up in Memory of My Mum I'm taking part in the National Breast Cancer Foundation's Step Up to Breast Cancer Challenge for someone who will always be in my heart—my mum. Breast cancer didn't just affect her. It changed the lives of everyone who loved her. It brought fear, uncertainty, heartbreak, and challenges that our family faced every single day. We watched someone we loved fight with incredible strength and courage, and even after losing her, the impact of that loss has never truly left us. Now, I'm facing the possibility of walking a similar path myself. It has given me an even deeper understanding of how frightening and life-changing this disease can be—not only for the person diagnosed, but also for their family, friends, and everyone who stands beside them. I'm stepping up because I want to honour my mum's memory, support the families who are facing this battle today, and help create hope for those who may face it tomorrow. Every step I take is for the mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, friends, and loved ones whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. Research saves lives. It brings us closer to earlier detection, better treatments, and, one day, a future where fewer families have to experience the pain that mine has. If you're able to support me, whether by donating, sharing my page, or simply offering words of encouragement, I would be deeply grateful. Together, we can make a difference. This challenge is more than just walking. It's about remembering my mum, finding strength in her memory, and stepping forward with hope—for myself, for my family, and for everyone affected by breast cancer.

This August, I’m walking 56km as part of Step Up to Breast Cancer; for the mothers, sisters, daughters, friends, and loved ones whose lives have been changed by this disease. Like so many, I’ve seen how deeply breast cancer can touch a life. The fear, the uncertainty, the strength it demands, it stays with you. And while I may not have all the answers or the power to change everything, I can take this step. This walk is my way of showing up. Of turning care into action. Of contributing, even in a small way, to something that truly matters. I’m raising funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation to support vital research, because every breakthrough, every discovery, every bit of progress starts somewhere. For me, this is more than just 56km. It’s a step towards purpose. A step towards hope. A step towards a future where fewer lives are shaken by breast cancer.

This August, I’m walking with purpose for my mum Linda Sutcliffe and for everyone affected by breast cancer. I’ve committed to walking 168 km and raising $1,500 to support vital research, treatment and care services. This journey is deeply personal to me and every step I take is in honour of my mum and the strength she’s shown us all through her recent battle with this dreadful disease. If you’re able to support me, whether by donating, sharing this fundraiser or helping spread awareness, it would truly mean so much. Your support helps bring hope to families going through this and moves us closer to a future without breast cancer. Thank you for standing with me.

Last year was one of the hardest years our family has ever faced. The strongest person we know, our mum, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Through countless hospital appointments, surgeries, treatments, and difficult days, she faced every challenge with incredible courage and determination. Watching her fight through it all showed us just how strong she truly is. Even when things were tough, she never gave up, and today we couldn’t be prouder of the amazing woman she is and everything she has overcome. To honour her journey and support others affected by breast cancer, my two brothers and I will be walking 56km throughout August. This walk is our way of celebrating Mum’s strength, resilience, and the love that carried our family through such a difficult time.

I’m dedicating my 56km this August to one of my closest friends, who is courageously battling breast cancer. Throughout her journey, she has undergone treatment while pregnant, welcomed her beautiful baby into the world, and continued raising her toddler with incredible strength and love. Her resilience inspires me every day, and this challenge is for her and everyone affected by breast cancer.

I am doing this for all the future generations of girls and women (my daughter). Hoping, with all my heart that we as a community, friends and family can raise money to assist scientists who are way smarter than me, find a way to reduce the number of women diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Increase the number of preventative options, scans and mammograms for younger women at no cost. 3 generations of women (I am the 3rd gen) in my family have had Breast Cancer.

Stepping Up because of the truly hard times so many women and families have faced. If they can go through all of that hardship, running 168km in August doesn’t seem that hard in comparison.
In Loving Memory of my Mum !!

This August, I'll be walking 56km in support of those affected by breast cancer. Many years ago, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. She faced her battle with incredible strength and courage, and thankfully she overcame it. Watching her fight and survive showed me just how resilient she was and how important research, treatment and support can be for those facing this disease. Sadly, years later, Mum was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Despite another courageous fight, we lost her. While breast cancer wasn't the illness that ultimately took her from us, it was a journey that forever impacted our family and gave us a firsthand understanding of the challenges that so many people face when diagnosed with cancer. I'm walking 56km in her memory, to honour her strength, courage and determination. I'm also walking for everyone currently facing breast cancer, for the survivors, for the families supporting loved ones through treatment, and for those who have lost someone dear to them. Every step I take is for Mum and for the countless others whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. By raising funds and awareness, I hope to help support the research and services that give more people the chance to survive and spend more precious years with the people they love. Thank you for supporting me and helping make a difference. "Mum beat breast cancer, but cancer ultimately took her from us. This walk is for her, and for every family whose life has been changed by this disease." ❤️
