About me

My name is Bella, and I’m writing on behalf of my ‘kilometersforcancer’ team. Breast cancer is a condition that is not only close to my heart but to thousands of women around the world. This condition not only affects those facing this issue themselves but to the family and friends around them. When my mum got diagnosed I wanted nothing more than to be able to help, at the age of 16 I felt helpless. I felt as though there was nothing online or in person that I could do to raise awareness. Weeks before my 17th birthday (which so happened to be in August) I came across this fundraiser, and pretty soon my ‘helplessness’ became ‘helpful’. Walking 10,000 steps per day in the month of August was just the tip of the iceberg. By walking I was able to build a team, raise awareness, spread health information and form a community where women felt safe in regards to their autonomy additionally Donations aid research in preventing and treating breast cancer one step at a time. I may have only been a teenage girl, but alongside an army for strong and independent individuals I was able to form a community. Something that I will never forget.
