Welcome to august! the story so far...

Welcome again to this fundraising page and blog, in honour of our dear friend, Mikaela. Only around 2 months ago Mikki (or Kahla, Mikki G, Mama G, or Soul Sista as I call her!) found out that a small little lump in her breast was the Big C, breast cancer. A horrific shock to us all. after a long week or two of tests, scans, specialist appointments and agonising waits, it was determined to be a triple positive - HRT 2, hormone positive. Another uncomfortable shock was the fact that Mik is a young, fit, healthy just-turned-40-year-old with no known history of breast cancers in the family! I know that an important part of this journey for Mikki is raising awareness around "Breast Cancer Does Not Discriminate"! Anyone at any age, health, fitness, generic history etc can develop breast cancer. Scary. Stay Tuned as I pledge to walk 56km in the month of August to raise funds to continue researching breast cancer to discover treatments and possibly cures! Mikki & Liss xo

Why am i doing this?

🩷 My beautiful and dear dear Soul Sista, Mikaela, was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer and thrown into the world of cancer, appointments, treatment, scans, tests and complete uncertainty and upheaval of life as she knew it only a few months ago.... To say that she- along with all of her family and friends who love her so much- were surprised that a perfectly healthy, fit & strong 40-year-old could be diagnosed with this was a shock to say the least. Cancer truly knows no bounds, nor does it discriminate young from old, fit from unfit, healthy from unhealthy. 🩷 I'll share more of Mikki's journey soon. When I saw this breast cancer fundraising opportunity come up, I knew I had to go for it - living far away and also not being able to do anything for her is such a helpless position, the walking 2km every day to reach my target and encouraging others to joint Team Mikalea Page and raise money doing the same feels less helpless! This August, our team is taking part in Step Up to Breast Cancer for the mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and loves ones who are impacted by this devastating disease.

We are doing this to raise funds for National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to support vital breast cancer research to help save lives.
