Support my challenge to Step Up to Breast Cancer!

Right now, 56 people in Australia are diagnosed with breast cancer every day.

This August, I am taking part in Step Up to Breast Cancer for the mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and loves ones who are impacted by this devastating disease.

I am doing this to raise funds for National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to support vital breast cancer research to help save lives.

Day 10 changing coastlines

Monday 10th Aug
I started the day with a quick 1.2km sunrise walk. Wowser was it beautiful! The beach has been washed away overnight, exposing pipeline we havent seen before. Lunchtime was another 2.6km, and after work I headed the whole way to the jetty to add 3.2km, wearing my new pink stepping up to breast cancer t-shirt that came today! I finished the night with a walk to the Amazon which has changed direction and grown significantly since yesterday! Rooster was amused for quite some time by the collapses up and down the banks. A massive work day, with a designated buggy driver meant I added 7km just from my work shift today! Day 10 summary: Mum walk: 8.5km work day 7km Charlie: 1.2km

Time for a new target!

I checked my page after work to find I was only $3 away from my target! You guys are amazing. Time for a new target.... $1000.

Fourth 56km dedication

Monday 10th Aug
As I passed 224km yesterdsy, that's my fourth 56km. This one is dedicated go my sister Hannah, and all the other superheroes who walk among us. Hannah is a nurse in oncology and sees a lot more than we do! Her compassion helps not only patients, but their families.

Day 9 soccer!

Monday 10th Aug
Day 9 was soccer day for the kids. we rode to the oval and they played their hearts out. Charlie copped a ball to the face from very close range and that unfortunately ended his time on field. I started a walk hoping to get to Bandy, but some glitches with my eyes had me turning around just incase. I knew I would get wet at some point as there were no islands on the horizon, the port was gone and the jetty was disappearing before my eyes. It was quite refreshing to walk in. Day 9: Mum ride 5.6km walk 5km workday 10km

Day 8 stormy workday

Monday 10th Aug
We started the morning with a very tiny walk to the beach, only a few hundred metres along! For me it felt much longer as I was piggy backing Ryder. It is not as easy as it used to be!!! We rode to town in the evening to get some takeaway, a decision we came to regret. As we sat in McDonalds, bins on the street were blown over, street signs rattled as if they were going to take off any second and one of the promotional signs from inside the alfresco area was even ripped off the windowcand blew fown. the street, luckily bring caught by my face as we were crossingvthe drivethru! Charlie watchedca tree brsnch fll outof a pine tree and we crossed our fingers the rain would wait until we got home. We were all icicles when we made it home safely, just in time for the hail. Day 7 magical sunrise

Monday 10th Aug
It's moments like these that make it worth waking up in the morning! The sky was a perfect gradient from orange to deep blue. The sun was yet to show its head. I made it to the jetty in time to watch the orange glow become more concentrated and finally, the sun was up. The ocean and shoreline glistened with varying shades of orange and gold. It was beautiful. Today's breakdown Mum: walk 6.5km ride 6km work day movements 6km Charlie and Ryder: walk 1.75km ride 4.5km

Third 56km dedication

Friday 7th Aug
I hit over 168km yesterday meaning my third 56km is complete. This one is dedicated to my Grandma. She lost both of her sisters to breast cancer and after the loss of her second sister was treated prophylactically with Tomoxifin as a measure to prevent her from getting breast cancer. Your donations can help fund research to prevent this disease.

Day 6: not enough hours in a day!

Friday 7th Aug
Day 6 only say me doing a morning and evening walk plus a massive 10 hour day at work. I was greeted with the most picture perfect sky in the early hours of the morning but didn't have my phone for a photo. The beach was covered in the seaweed in the evening after a storm that came in hard and fast causing a lot of flooding. Day 6 Sarah walk 4km Work Day 10km

Day 5: wednesday lapathon

Thursday 6th Aug
Wednesday night is soccer night so what better way to clock up some km than walking the oval while the kids train! 6km of walks/jogs today with Charlie joining me occasionally. We had fun stealing the ball from each other and I managed to dribble a little bit myself. I fit in a quick 1km walk in the morning, a 3.7km walk to "Hamelin Bay" where I had to keep stoppinng to let Roosta catch up. it was a 2.7km ride to soccer, and a 5.7 km ride home via Scouts. another 6.5km ride to pick Ryder up from Scouts and finishing the night off with just over 2km for Roosta's nightly toilet walk. Day 5: Sarah walk 13km ride 15km Day to Day movements 9km Ryder ride 5.4km Charlie ride 8.4km

Day 4: second 56km dedication

Wednesday 5th Aug
I finished day 4 with a total of 131km. I'm dedicating my second 56km to my amazing Mum RobnVicki Davies. Diagnosed at 45, she endured everything breast cancer threw at her and has now been in the clear for decades (or close to it?). Thankyou all for your donations so far- lets fight for developments in treatment so more people can live to tell their story.

Day 2: first 56km dedication

Wednesday 5th Aug
After a mammoth effort on the bike, I am dedicating my first 56km to my cousin Rachel. Her beauty came from within. Her kindness warmed those around her and her smile could light up a football stadium. She was taken far too young about 6 years ago. Please help me raise money to lower this statistic.

Day 4: walks and rides

Wednesday 5th Aug
After a lovely morning walk, we headed home to start our school day. We moved into the camp kitchen which, incidentally added several km to my day walking back and forth to the caravan! Around lunch time I headed to the jetty and ten to the lookout to add 3.5km to my walking tally. In the evening, it was time to ride out to Bandy Creek to get Charlie to Army. disappointed that it had not hit 5km yet, we continued down to the beach and back. A sudden brutal attack of mozzies had us adding quite a bit of walking and running trying to keep them away from uscwhile we waited for other Cadets to arrive! Another ride for the 9pm pickup saw me walking along the beach under the starry sky, and practicing my marching up and down the street before I sat to watch the Cadets do their final drill. When we got home, I walked the dog to let the trip km tick over to 12 before passing out for the night! Day 4: Sarah Walk 10km Ride 22km Day to day movements 9km Ryder and Charlie walk 3.5km Ride 10km

Day 4: red in the morning; sailor's warning

Tuesday 4th Aug
I snuck out while the kids were sleeping to get in a quick walk. The sun was just showing its promise of day across the Esperance Bay, while in the opposite direction the Port shone bright on the ocean. Walking by myself is easy, and if I didn't have anyone at home its very possible I would have just kept walking east! But alas, I forced myself to turn around after 1.5km at our very own Hamelin Bay (Castletown Quays). The kids were awake when I got back so I collected them and we headed for the jetty. The clouds were hiding the full sunrise this morning, so I captured the best of it in the dark. We strolled the community garden, climbed the stairs at the Esperance Cannery, watched the dolphins in the bay and sheltered from the rain before heading home with 6.5km on the clock.

Day 3: work day

Monday 3rd Aug
Day 3 started with a 3km sunrise walk to the end of the jetty. The wind was icy cold and coming straight into the ear. With the kids still in bed, I headed back to do my Mumly duties before work. Lunch time saw a quick 1.5km with the kids so Roosta could stretch his legs. With a late finish at work there wasn't much time left to do much, but we managed a 2.8km ride to the local shop for some dinner ingredients, and finally, a 3km walk to take Roosta to the beach before bed. This dog is definitly not helping my cause! After 500m I had to beg him to come, only to find him waiting at the beach entry at the 1km mark! I dragged him to the next section before giving in and took him home. Not content with this distance, I decided to walk the perimeter and streets of the caravan park. This got me past 3km. Despite a big day at work, I only managed 6km throughout the day. I drove the buggy today so lost a bit of distance. So at the end of Day 3 Sarah. Ryder walk 7.5km ride 2.8km 2.8km workday 6.35km

Day 2- pink lake and yonder

Monday 3rd Aug
Today started with a 3km walk to the end of the Jetty and back. I missed my sunrise views with my husband, but enjoyed listening to a fisherman playing his harmonica instead! Ryder and I rode to and from the soccer oval for his game this morning adding 6km to both of our cycling tallies, and then rode to the movies for his friend's birthday party. I ran around like a headless chook in the few hours I had at work in the afternoon before jumping back on the bike to head out to Pink Lake to pick Ryder up. I reached Pink Lake at about the 9km mark, just in time to see the last of the sunset casting pink hues over the lake. I arrived at my destination about 6km later. We donned our head lamps, and enjoyed some lovely quality time, while Ryder clocked up 15km and I ended up with 30km. As soon as we got home, I took Roosta to the beach, adding another 2km to my walking tally Day 2: Mum Ryder Ride 41 23 Walk 6 Workday. 9

Day 1- world scout scarf day

Saturday 1st Aug
The rain put a dampner on my plans this morning. I was awake at 5.30am but the drizzle outside, and the fact that Ryder slept through his alarm (excuses excuses I know!) meant that snuggling up in bed happened instead of my planned 10km morning ride. Not to worry! having no car for the weekend meant Ryder and I still got our ride in, and a forgotten backpack at the jetty halfway added 3km to the ride! Ryder made it to the Scout Hall to run a bake stall at the Growers Market with 7km under his belt. I made it to work with just over 10km. A late morning race back to pick him up again meant my tally went up by 5km and Ryder's went up by 2.5km After work, I managed a quick 1.86km walk between showers so Roosta could stretch his legs on the beach. So in total, that's about 17km of walking/riding for me, and 9.5km riding for Ryder. But let's not forget all the walking I do during the day living and working in a caravan park! Choices like using the farthest ablutions instead of the caravan and walking instead of being the buggy driver meant I walked an extra 9km in my day! So we are currently at Sarah Ryder Ride: 15km. ~10km Walk: 1.86km Walk (work day) 9km

Coastal walks recon

Wednesday 22nd Jul
Yesterday, Ryder and I did a bit of beach hopping. at least I know some of tge distances of coastal walks around Esperance now!
