Run for Research
From 14th October to 14th November 448 km in 32 days, thats an average of 14km a day, all to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Cancer is something that has touched everyone in some way. Breast cancer has affected someone close to me, and other members of my family have fought their own battles with cancer too. I've seen how a diagnosis turns life upside down, not just for the person going through it but for everyone around them.
Why 14 km? About 1 in 7 Australian women (around 14%) will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Men get it too. Every day, around 56 Australians hear the words "you have breast cancer," and 9 lose their lives to it.
This challenge is also for anyone going through a tough time, whether that's illness, loss or any other kind of hardship. Some days these runs will be hard, and I'll keep going anyway. I want this to be a reminder that you're not alone, and that there are people in your corner even when it doesn't feel like it.
NBCF funds world-class research into preventing, detecting and treating breast cancer, and it gets no government funding. Every dollar comes from people like you. Research is the reason survival rates have improved so much, and it's how we'll get to zero deaths.
