Tues 25th aug. a little about me and my diagnosis.

Tues 25th Aug 6k walk today along the coast from City beach to Floreat beach. A little about me----As many of you know I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in Nov 2024. My GP was right on to it and I had an appointment with a Breast surgeon before I left the clinic. I had my team sorted with in two weeks of feeling the lump. My BC was HER+, the most common and since it’s the most common the most researched type. Being diagnosed twenty, ten or even five years earlier the treatment would be must different. Through ongoing research, treatment have changed. Even now two years after my diagnose and treatment it has changed and keeps changing monthly. This is why I choose the challenge. August is my birthday month and a way to raise fund to keep BC research going. I choose the treatment the specialist said was best for me and I survived. It was not easy and I was in discomfort and pain many days. I did six rounds of chemo then had surgery. I had a double mastectomy with immediate DIEP. Which is they cut out all the breast tissue and transplant the fat from your tummy, under the belly button, deep down, and use that to fill for your breast. It was a very long surgery with a nine day stay in the hospital. I was not without complication once I left and had to visit the plastic dept weekly for months. Luckily, we have the home nurse care and once the infection was under control, a nurse could come visit me at home. It’s over a year now since the surgery and while mentally I’m in a good place the body still remembers and I need to keep it moving when I can and not overdo it. I’ll still be dealing with aches and pains for a while yet and seeing which after care medications I can handle. Thanks to those who have donated it will help vital research for Breast Cancer here in Australia. I’ve walked 36ks so far and have another 20ks to go. Send me a message. For those who have someone going through this or any illness here is some tips from me Don’t ask how you can help, just do. Drop in and do what you can around the house, vacuum, dishes, sweep, cook, clean the toilet, etc anything you feel needs to be done. Bringing meal is a wonderful help too. Just having a quick visit is good enough too. Send a text, voice note or funny meme to let them know your thinking about them. Take them for a drive and grab a drink. If you’re lucky enough to live close to a beautiful coast line like me the ocean is very healing!! Contact doesn’t end when treatment does………still stay in touch. It’s a long journey and its not over when the scars are healed, active treatment may be done but there will always be on going treatments. Cheers Bee 🐝
