This August, I’m Stepping Up – Will You Walk With Me?

I’ve never been great at asking for donations. Fundraising doesn’t come naturally to me — unless it’s for something I deeply believe in. And when it’s something I love - even better!

If you know me, you know how much I love to walk. So this August, I’m lacing up my shoes and taking part in the Step Up to Breast Cancer Challenge to raise awareness and much-needed funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The goal is to walk at least 58 kilometres during the month of August.
Why 58? Because every single day in Australia, 58 people hear the words: "You have breast cancer." That’s 58 lives changed in an instant — 58 families impacted, 58 journeys that begin with fear but are carried by hope.

For me, this is more than just a number. One of my dearest friends became one of those 58 earlier this year. She’s currently in the middle of intensive treatment — fighting with every ounce of strength she has. And because she can’t walk right now, I’m walking for her.

In fact, I’ve decided 58 kilometres isn’t enough. I’m doubling the challenge and committing to walk 116 kilometres throughout August.
Why 116? It’s nearly the length of the English Way of the Camino — a path I completed not long ago. But this time, the journey is different. It’s not just about the distance, it’s about purpose.

I’ll walk the first 58 for every person diagnosed today.
And I’ll walk the next 58 for my best friend — and for the strength she’ll regain thanks to research-driven treatments that are changing lives.

Breast cancer research saves lives. It’s already saving hers.

But we need your help to keep going.
Together, we can make a difference. Whether it’s $5, $50, or just sharing this message — every step, and every dollar, counts.

Let’s imagine a future where that number — 58 — gets smaller.
Let’s walk toward it.
