Support my challenge to Step Up to Breast Cancer!
Right now, 56 people in Australia are diagnosed with breast cancer every day.
This August, I am taking part in Step Up to Breast Cancer for the mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and loves ones who are impacted by this devastating disease.
I am doing this to raise funds for National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to support vital breast cancer research to help save lives.

F Cancer
Friday 24th JulLast August, I had pain, felt a lump, and knew something wasn’t right. I mentioned it to my doctor, telling myself it was probably just a lymph node or something inflamed because I’d had a virus, never thinking it could be cancer.
The mammogram and ultrasound were the day before my 39th birthday. When the receptionist urgently tried to arrange a biopsy, I knew something wasn’t right.
This August, I’m turning 40. Since then, I’ve had a port inserted, a mastectomy, lymph node removal, 14 rounds of chemotherapy, 25 sessions of radiation, and hormone blockers. I still have another two surgeries and 5–10 years of hormone treatment ahead of me. Not to mention menopause, two years of lymphedema check-ins, cardiac physiotherapy, and the fatigue!
My kids have learnt words they never should have had to learn, like “radiation” and “chemotherapy”. They’ve had to be careful when they hug me because of my port and tissue expander. They’ve tolerated uncertainty, fear, anxiety, and never-ending appointments and changes to plans.
I am endlessly grateful to my village and their support. I wouldn’t have been able to get through this without them.
I’ve met so many amazing people on this journey, and it’s scary how common cancer is once you start talking about it.
I have struggled with my fitness through all of this and still spend one day a week in bed. This challenge is a way for me to focus on rebuilding my fitness. Even if I don’t reach the 56 km, I’ll be proud that I gave it a go.
