Taff’s Breast Cancer fundraiser

1 in 7 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.  

That is why I am hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast event this October to raise vital funds for breast cancer research and help NBCF towards their vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.

My journey with breast cancer started when I was in utero, and my mother was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer at age 24 and during treatment was found to have the BRAC1 gene.

This gene has been peppered throughout my life. On my Mum’s side my Grandma Angela, her brother Mark and her Mother have all had the BRAC1 gene and bilateral breast cancer. My dad’s sister, Aunty Laura has also battled breast cancer and my mum’s sister Aunty Christine is positive for the BRAC1 gene and has undergone preventive surgery. 

All this to say, the reality of breast cancer is not a foreign concept to my family. 

On July 15th, 2025 my safety net of “surveillance due to a family history” was shattered and I myself tested positive to the BRAC1 gene. I was angry, mad, upset and pissed off.

So I decided, I needed a purpose. A positive focus whilst going through the impending journey of preventive surgery. So I decided to raise funds for Pink Hope and NBCF to help people like my family members.
