Support my challenge to step up to breast cancer!

My mum never got to grow old. She was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer at 50 and died from it at 57. Seven years of treatments, changing medications, the ups when it was working, the really big lows when it stopped responding, and then onto the next option, until there was no next option.

She never got to meet my kids or see me become a mum. She worked hard to raise us and set us up for our lives, then missed out on all the good things that come with getting older. Watching us build our own families, enjoying grandkids, travelling freely in retirement, having time to enjoy her passions. Breast cancer took time away from her. It took her away from us. Six years later, the grief doesn’t get easier. It just changes shape.

She’s not the only one. Other women in my family have had breast cancer too, and I’ll start genetic testing and regular screening myself. It always feels close, like it never really leaves us.

Every day, 58 people in Australia hear the words “you have breast cancer.” That’s 58 families whose world changes in an instant.

So this August, I’m doing what I can. I’m stepping up for my mum, my family, my friends. For everyone who should have more time.

If you can, please donate. The National Breast Cancer Foundation is constantly funding research to find better treatments, earlier detection, and hopefully a cure one day.

And please — check your breasts. Remind the people you love to check theirs too.

More time. More options. That’s all I want for all of us.
