Paint the Highway Pink

TEAM STEP TOTAL 502323

The town to town walk for breast cancer

I couldnโ€™t have done it without so many incredible people with genuine intentions and a true blue Aussie spirit.

My angel, Amanda Daniels, at 91.9 or 103.5fm Coonamble local radio station, truly helped everything fly.ย

Amanda gave just as much as I did and her team has been pumping it on air and online.ย

They even brought us out so much food and cold drinks and set a table with a pretty pink cloth up on the highway. A.

Then she showed up with her beautiful two boys and walked with me for a bit.ย

The kids, were so very brave, and It was lovely to have an Angel beside me .

After that, I had about twenty-something kilometres to go.

Webber Farming Walgett.

Oh my goodness, Greg, Helen, Lizzy, George and Hannah Webber.ย

Words canโ€™t begin to express my gratitude or how much they contributed to all this.

Helen and Lizzy walked with me 15 kilometres out of Walgett.

The Webbers have done so much to make this happen.ย

They were the first ones to jump on board They decked out their farms with pink and spread the word from Walgett to Sydney and beyond.ย

They even loaned us one of their escort cars and paid for fuel.

Mrs Jane Obrien walked with me on day one for 15 kilometres and on day two for another 15 kilometres.ย

She was not only incredible to walk with but truly inspiring.

Melissa Ozoux, the powerhouse of Geronimo farm equipment and machinery, is a hidden treasure of our community.ย

Melissa has a heart of gold and the tyre is staying pink until the end of August.

Jo Colman, our local newspaper, ย doing the 1st news report/ review , Jo truly is a shinning star though out the community.

2WEB Radio not only ย pushing it out on the radio but for being so supportive and kind.

My auntie Marilyn, I was so touched and overwhelmed when she offered to be my escort.ย

Iโ€™m absolutely grateful to have her watching my back and keeping me safe on a busy major highway.

My boss Alyson and the Walgett Community Centre helped with my posters, spreading hope and awareness.

There are so many others who deserve acknowledgement for their contributions. ย

Every single one of you, and you know who you are, are a big part of making my dream a reality.ย

I honestly canโ€™t thank you all enough.

My beautiful mum saved the day by buying me a pair of new joggers from Coonamble and bringing me out.

My ex-husband came along and gave me a couple of Red Bulls. After that, we flew. It was pretty scary walking in the dark on a major highway, but I could see the light and used my pain as fuel. I made it 45 kilometres in just over 12 hours.

Along the way, 1st up - we met a beautiful couple towing a caravan.ย

We heard the beep, beep, beep, and a lovely lady said, โ€œIโ€™m a survivor. Hereโ€™s a donation. Thank you.โ€

This beautiful lady was one of so many.ย

I called ย a lady just to say gโ€™day, ย as I promised to do when I got to her gate, another just ย beautiful woman, She came up on a quad to bring us cold drinks.ย

A beautiful lady and her gorgeous girls, the 3 hot guys stoped us toย
Another lady tracked us down with her quad, to give me a hug and donated.

& while struggling in the dark. A beautiful little family with two gorgeous little girls pulled up off the road just to meet us and say hello.ย

OMG al the fabulous things along the way that were decked out in pink.

All these small acts of support truly helped me push through all the pain and find the strength I never knew I had to keep going.ย

I feel so honoured that the National Breast Cancer Foundation allowed me to finally fulfil a dream of mine and to represent them.

Thereโ€™s a paint the highway pink flag at every mile walked except at the 5km mark, as I only had one left. Itโ€™s on the welcome to Coonamble sign.

Thank you so much for taking your time to read and for all your support and kindness.

Total distance: 120.30 kilometres in 27 hours, 17 minutes and 52 seconds. Average pace: 13 minutes and 37 seconds per kilometre.

Every second, every minute, every hour, every step was for all the fighters, survivors, families effected by breast cancer and for all those weโ€™ve lost to this insidious illness.

A massive thank you to everyone involved.

Fundraising ends October 31st.

Saturday the 22nd august 2026

At 8am, weโ€™ll begin painting the Castlereagh Highway pink at Alex Trevillion Park in Walgett, NSW. Please come down and see us off. It wonโ€™t be flashy or fast โ€“ just a lady in pink walking on a major highway to raise hope awareness and support for all fighters survivors and families affected by breast cancer. Everyoneโ€™s welcome to join us at the start or along the way in any way they can. Thank you for taking your time to read ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ™Ness

Carry a mate

Carry A Mate is where you donate or do extra ks for someone else doing the challenge that for whatever reason is unable to complete or is struggling to do the challenge. For me doing this challenge isnโ€™t just about clocking ks itโ€™s about helping others, giving each other support, raising awareness & hope for all those whom have been impacted/ affected by breast cancer. Today the 9th Aug I stoped recording my ks to the challenge because we have a fellow participant whom is also doing this, just needs them more, so I offered to carry them and they accepted so I am very honoured to give every step from today to this person, till I help them reach their target. So if your looking at my Ks on my page and think Iโ€™m not doing much, well today the 9th Aug I did a total of 27.5ks donated ks. hereโ€™s 1 session the 2nd is in my pis apologise due to privacy concerns I am unable to name this person or share my maps

Please help support

Iโ€™m not that great with words or know where to begin so Iโ€™m just going to share with you all just one of the reasons, why Iโ€™m participating in the step up for breast cancer challenge. I knew an old man once, he never had much to say but when he did, you just sit there, listen for many years heโ€™d never smile, some say he was a grump others say he was humble & kind. He was POW in WW2 & had many scars but one day he was struggling to put a tyre back on the old HG so I rushed in & help him, with out sound, we got the tyre back on and he sat back and watch me turn the spanner around, got all the nuts on lowered the wheel back to ground, tighten the nuts off & I said โ€œdoneโ€ & he said โ€œcome here kid โ€œ So I didโ€ฆ He looked straight at me but he had something Iโ€™ve never seen on his face before He had the biggest a smile from ear to ear and tears slowly falling from his eyes He slowly wiped away his tears and softly said โ€œnow kid, you may not be able to change the world but you can change the world for one person and today that person was me so thank you. See in that moment I learned something truly valuable.. & that sometimes actions speak louder then words.. Therefore for all the fighters For all the survivors For all the families Whom have been affected by breast cancer Iโ€™m not only stepping up this time around but Iโ€™m going try my best with my busted ankles , to achieve a dream of mine & walk town to town in all pink in an effort to raise hope, awareness, supportโ€ฆ P.s hereโ€™s a pic of me on the highway Iโ€™m going to walk. Thank you for reading ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’• ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ’™

Paint the highway pink

The National Breast Cancer Foundation is one charity that is truly close to my heart & for all the fighters, for all the survivors, for all the families words cannot express how much we care, how much they need help, & support, to help fight this devastating disease. But actions can, so on August 22nd Iโ€™m going to do my best to achieve a dream of mine The dream - a 115kms walk in all pink on the Caslereagh Highway from Walgett NSW to Coonamble NSW. Now this probably will be the slowest hobble wobble walk in all pink ever to be recorded Because Iโ€™m a heavy smoker, ainโ€™t that fit, plus will need some help out on the highway. But itโ€™s not about me itโ€™s about the 56 Aussieโ€™s that are diagnosed everyday Breast Cancer. Please help in anyway you can. Thank you for reading & viewing some of the pics Iโ€™ve taken while training.. ๐Ÿ’• to all.

Nessy, what an incredibly inspiring thing you are doing by taking on the Step Up to Breast Cancer Challenge. ๐Ÿ’—๐ŸŽ€ Every step you take represents strength, hope and love for the thousands of women and families whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. By challenging yourself and raising much-needed funds, you’re helping support vital breast cancer research and bringing us closer to a future where no family has to experience the heartbreak this disease can bring. Be proud of every kilometre, every donation and every person you inspire along the way. You’re not just walking — you’re walking for hope, for those fighting, for the survivors, and in memory of the beautiful souls we’ve lost. So proud of you, Nessy. Keep stepping forward and know that there are so many people cheering you on every step of the way. ๐Ÿ’•๐ŸŽ€ You’ve got this, Nessy! One step at a time, making a beautiful difference. ๐Ÿ’—
