In 2023 my mum was diagnosed with a breast condition known as DCIS. This was discovered thanks to scans. While DCIS is commonly known as Stage 0 breast cancer, if not discovered early enough it can become far more serious. We were lucky that my mum had access to scans which allowed it to be caught and treated, others however aren’t as lucky. - Sophie
Over 160,000 people living in Australia have been diagnosed with breast cancer in the last 10 years. 1 in 7 women and 1 in 600 men are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Over 3,300 people die of breast cancer every year, that is nine people every day.
With a history of breast cancer in our families and communities, we have decided to train for a hyrox together to raise money for breast cancer research.
Doing 30 minutes of vigorous activity each day reduces your risk by 17% of premenopausal breast cancer and around 10% lower risk of postmenopausal breast cancer than women who do low levels of vigorous physical activity.
