This year, my life took a detour I never saw coming. I’m sharing my story today because I want it to be a rea life reminder of the power of early breast cancer detection.

Earlier this year, I went in for my routine, recommended breast screening. I felt completely fine and honestly didn't think for a second that I would have breast cancer. I was simply following the recommended screening and ticking a box on my health to do list.

Then came the massive shock. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer: ER/PR-positive, HER2-negative, Grade 1 invasive ductal carcinoma, alongside extensive high grade DCIS and LCIS.

Everything moved at lightning speed. Just one week later, I went into surgery to have the 2.6cm tumor removed. After six weeks of recovery, I started 15 rounds of radiation over three weeks. I am incredibly fortunate that I was able to continue working through my treatment, and by early August, my radiation was complete.

Today, the fatigue has completely lifted. I am back to my daily life, and most importantly: I am cancer free.

I can't stop thinking about how very different my story could have been if I hadn't gone in for that recommended screening. That realisation is exactly why I want to turn my gratitude into action.
