Emm’s 58 Squat Challenge for breast cancer research

58 Australians will be diagnosed with breast cancer today and a further 9 will die. We want to make a difference to the lives of those 58 Australians impacted by the disease - that is why we are taking on the 58 Squat Challenge to raise vital funds for world-class breast cancer research. But we need your help.

I never thought at age 34, I would be diagnosed with Stage 3, Triple Negative Breast Cancer and be one of those 58 people impacted that day. 

A double goldilocks mastectomy at the end of 2024 and 3 out of 16 rounds of chemotherapy completed so far in 2025, I’m in the thick of my breast cancer fight! 

Early detection is key to winning this battle, I was relatively lucky that I caught my cancer in the early stages (only just), to give me a good chance at beating it - but so many don’t! 

Knowledge is power, by assisting this research we can help to enable mums, grandmas, sisters, daughters, cousins, friends to have the skills to detect when something is wrong early and have access to the latest medical research to support all the different variants of breast cancer so they can win their battle! 

I’m all for raising funds for this research but I’m also really keen to share my journey, in a hope that it will prompt other female adults (young and old) to check your boobs regularly - know what’s normal for you and advocate for yourself if it doesn’t seem right! Cancer doesn’t discriminate - remember you or someone you know is not too young to get breast cancer! If you know a female adult that has boobs, encourage them to regularly check for lumps and bumps, differences in appearance - knowing what your normal is and speaking to your GP can be the key to getting in front of this hideous disease.
