1 in 7 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

And our beautiful colleague Jorja is one of them.

Jorja was 36 years old and a mother of a two-year-old boy when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer in November 2024.

At the time, Jorja was also a NDIA Planner in the Specialised Service Delivery Division based in Newcastle, NSW.

After finding one lump in her breast, within a matter of weeks after testing, it was confirmed that the lump was cancer, and that it has already reached Stage 4 and spread to her lungs and hip. Jorja was given two years to live.

Due to the volume of medical appointments and the toll that the treatment was taking on her body, she went on leave from work in January 2025.

Since that time, Jorja has continued to fight. She has sought treatment from an oncology naturopath, has received hormonal blockers in the form of tablets and injections, has been added to the public wait list to have her ovaries removed, has undergone extensive chemotherapy and had many setbacks. Jorja needed to stop chemotherapy treatment for a period due to liver damage. She recently had an operation to remove the large breast tumor and has resumed a different version of chemotherapy which has had a significant impact on her body, leaving her bedridden for days after each session. Jorja has also had to deal with separating from her husband who succumbed to addiction and resulted in domestic and family violence.

Jorja is an incredibly resilient young woman. Her older sister was born with Down Syndrome and Jorja has spent her life working and supporting people with disability. She is a beautiful soul, and it is important for our organisation to acknowledge the service of our team members and for us to stand united in support of those who have been impacted by breast cancer.

That is why we are hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast event this October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, to raise vital funds for breast cancer research and help NBCF towards their vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.

Please support us by either joining our Pink Ribbon Breakfast event or donating to our online fundraising page to help us reach our goal.

Together, we can stop deaths from breast cancer.
