Katrina McCubbin

I have pledged to GO PINK between 17 June 2026 and 30 June 2026.

Support me to GO PINK!

It's time for me to give back.Β  In February 2024, I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer.Β  I had a 6cm tumour.Β  I made it through gruelling treatment, awful side effects and a double mastectomy over 12 months with side effects that I still manage today.Β  That treatment was available to me because of the research that has been done to date.Β  I am currently no evidence of disease but continue to have three monthly surveillance for another 4 years.
It's time for me to give back, research is vital to keep improving our treatment options.Β  If I can help the next person not endure what I did and eventually reach no deaths in cancer, what a world it would be that we live in!

Cancer changes you forever.Β Β

My Updates

Update and thank you!!

Wednesday 24th Jun
I have one week to go for National Breast Cancer Foundation fundraising. I’m so excited that I’ve so far raised $757 of my $1000 goal.

Story time, explaining my reason for choosing to wear pink for this fundraiser. Β

For me personally, shaving/cutting my hair or colouring it pink was something I don’t have in me to do. When I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer I was told that my hair would fall out approximately 17 days after treatment starting. And my medical team were spot on. I cut it short in anticipation for what was coming then when it started coming out in clumps I knew I needed to shave it off. That day was when I lost my identity. And made cancer real. There was no more hiding what was going on.Β
I’ve spent the last year growing my hair. I missed chemo curl in my regrowth and I’m at the same length now that I was pre cancer. My hair came back white. I mean WHITE. So as soon as I could I worked with my amazing hairdresser to get some of my normal back through colouring my hair to what it was. And we are finally in a good space.

For me, the thought of cutting or changing my hair is trauma associated to my cancer. The little things right now mean the most and are probably things from the outside looking in you don’t realise I deal with.

So, my choice has been to wear pink to contribute to funding further research in to breast cancer with the hope for one day there being zero deaths from Breast Cancer.
