Our Squat Challenge for breast cancer research

This year I’m joining the National Breast Cancer Foundation Squat Challenge and committing to 56 squats a day throughout the month.

Why 56? Because 56 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer every single day.

Until I was diagnosed at 41, I had no idea just how common this disease is. It touches so many lives, and suddenly you realise how much research, science, and medical progress stand between people and outcomes that used to be far worse.

The truth is, I’m going to survive this because of research that came before me.
Because scientists kept asking questions.
Because doctors kept refining treatments.
Because people funded the work that led to better surgery, better medicines, and a deeper understanding of this disease.

I’m deeply grateful that I’ve been able to access treatments that women before me didn’t always have; breast-conserving surgery, better genetic understanding, and more targeted treatment options.

Right now I’m doing everything I can to support my body through treatment. Some days that looks like a gym session and strength training. Other days it’s a short walk. Sometimes it’s just walking from the bed to the bathroom and back again.

But movement matters. Strength matters.

Research shows that physical fitness and muscle strength are associated with better outcomes for people with breast cancer, which is why I’m committing to these squats each day, even if I have to break them up throughout the day.

If you’d like to support this challenge, you can donate to the National Breast Cancer Foundation through my page. The funds don’t go to me; they go directly to the research that is changing survival rates for people like me.

And one more thing.

Check your boobs.
Get to know what’s normal for you.

Before I found my lump, I remember thinking, How would I even know what a lump feels like?

If you’ve ever had that thought too, you’re not alone. If you want to talk about it or ask questions, send me a DM. I’m really happy to share what I’ve learned and help demystify it a little.

The more we understand our bodies, and the more we support research, the better the outcomes will be for everyone.
