I'm now a Zero Hero
I still remember those four words, “I have breast cancer”, the pain we all felt as our world slowly crumbled. Our mother. A strong, courageous, independent woman who gave so much love and light to others no matter what struggles were in her way. Unfortunately cancer was a battle too big. It breaks my heart to say that her life sadly ended 2 years ago today on the 25th of October 2018.
Mum experienced many highs and lows, beginning a scary road of chemotherapy, working with naturopaths, changing her diet and continuing her spiritual journey with holistic healing. Alongside facing the mental battle of having a life-threatening disease sitting on her shoulders every day. One thing is that she always kept it together and even on her hardest days all the way to the end, she never gave up!
One piece of advice mum would say in her experience was to know your body and trust what it’s telling you, early detection could save your life.
Mum was empathetic, she was the first person to give a positive talk to her friends and family, giving advice “not to sweat the small things”, something she had worked on throughout her journey. Not only did she want to save herself but she had many aspirations to help others in need. Anyone who met her could tell you this is exactly who she was.
So, from today, for my Mother, I would like to raise money towards a cause that is now close to my family’s heart. The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) raising awareness and most importantly funding further research with a goal for ZERO deaths in 2030. Every death from breast cancer is one too many.
I believe that research is the best way to prevent deaths and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated. Together we can make a change!
