Support my challenge to swim for breast cancer!
As some of you know, this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had always considered my boobs to be one of my best assets, but now the left one (my previous favourite) was going rogue.
I consider myself lucky in that my treatment was fairly conservative - two lumpectomies, radiation and hormone therapy. But that time between diagnosis and a treatment plan is an absolutely terrifying experience.
Each day in Australia, 9 people die from breast cancer. In November I am taking part in the Swim for Breast Cancer, aiming to swim 9km in the month to raise money for vital research and support.
This time last year, 9km in a month would not have been an huge challenge, but surgery to remove lymph nodes and the impact of radiation has left me with pain through my arm, shoulder and down my side, making swimming much more of a chore than it used to be. Though I have no doubt it will improve.
