Because everyone knows someone who has been touched by this illness, and I want to do what I can to raise awareness of this cause and support the research into finding a cure for everyone. To those who are experiencing this illness, the survivors, and those who have lost loved ones, I’m doing this for you xx

I'm swimming for my darling best friend Jackie, who has just passed her 1 year milestone of being free of cancer. I was her chemo buddy last year and spent quite a bit of time with her, caring, supporting, secretly worrying while staying strong for her. Most of all though, she inspired me every week to stay positive and just get the job done. She proved to all those who know and love her that we can indeed do hard things. I'm hoping to smash my goals for her and everyone else suffering, recovering and living in the shadow of breast cancer
Jane Congdon

I’m swimming for all the amazing women in our livings who are currently facing or have ever had a battle with breast cancer. Every stroke is hopefully another step closer to a cure.
Courtney
Over the last two years, both my Grandma and my Nanna were diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, they’ve each come out the other side — but their journeys have made it clear how real and close this disease is for my family. It’s also made me far more aware that my sister and I carry an increased risk ourselves. And then there’s the bigger picture: nine people lose their battle with breast cancer every single day. That number is heartbreaking, and it shows just how important ongoing research is if we want to change those odds and save lives. This is why I’m swimming.
“I’m swimming for my cousin Rocio for hope, for strength, and for the day she conquers cancer and lives free. Every stroke is a promise that we believe in a cure.”
Sharon
Every lap I swim is for my beautiful friend Sharon — a woman of strength, grace, and endless courage. She’s facing life’s hardest battles with a heart full of hope and a smile that never fades. Sharon, you’ve inspired me more than words can say. I’m swimming for you, because you’ve been my rock, my light, and my reminder that love and resilience can conquer anything. This is for you — my incredible friend, my hero.”

Before accepting this challenge, I had NO idea how many people died every day from breast cancer and I was shocked. I have known many women who have survived it and some who tragically haven't. When my colleague Kim was diagnosed it made me realise how important it is for EVERY woman to have regular mammograms and not to wait until they are 50! I am swimming to raise funds for research but I am also swimming to raise awareness. I am proud to be part of it and make any small difference that I can.

Swimming for all the women and sisters in my life to show my 🩷 and support
Cancer has touched my family in a deeply personal way. Within a short time, two people I love were diagnosed and began their treatment journeys — one of them my cousin, Liz. Watching her face everything with such strength and positivity has been nothing short of inspiring. Liz has always been someone I’ve looked up to — full of life, laughter, and light. Last year, out of nowhere, she found a lump in her breast. Just ten months earlier, her mammogram had shown no sign of cancer, and there was no family history to suggest she was at risk. But that lump turned out to be triple negative breast cancer — one of the most aggressive forms. Living in Italy with her husband and away from most of our family, Liz had to face surgery almost immediately, followed by months of chemotherapy and radiation. Through it all — the exhaustion, the hair loss, the uncertainty — she remained her vibrant, positive self. Even on the hardest days, she found reasons to smile. What has inspired me most about Liz is her determination to stay true to herself throughout it all. She chose to face cancer on her own terms — with courage, grace, and that unmistakable spark that makes her who she is. Her strength is empowering, not just because she fought through the hardest moments, but because she never lost her sense of self along the way. She truly is a ray of sunshine. Recently, Liz was given the all clear, and I couldn’t be prouder of her resilience and spirit.

Sarah-Leigh McMahon
The reason I am taking on this challenge is because I know too many friends and family with a breast cancer diagnosis. Reassuringly, 3 are 'breast cancer survivors'. However, this year two younger friends of mine, in their late 30s and with young children, have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Every kilometre I swim I will be channelling my strength their way, and sending them positive vibes to withstand the riggers of their treatment journey ahead 🩷
Imogen

Breast cancer has touched my family on both sides, and I’ve seen the pain it causes for everyone it reaches. Over the past year, I’ve made it my mission to raise awareness, share stories, and honour those we’ve lost through making a documentary. Now, I’m swimming 9km for the 9 people who lose their lives to breast cancer every day. Every stroke is for them, for their strength, their stories, and the hope that one day, no one will have to face this disease again
Stephanie
I have decided to swim for breast cancer and support a cause I’m passionate about. I would like to send out my support to all those living with, have a family or friend with, or have survived breast cancer. I’m holding myself accountable to exercise and raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research in hopes to find a cure 🩷
Marjolijn
I have joined the Swim for Breast Cancer Challenge to support vital breast cancer research. And also to keep myself accountable to swim/exercise at least 4 times per week. My thoughts are with those impacted by breast cancer, and I am reminded that every stroke/donation helps to fund research.
Amanda
I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer (stage 4) just 4 months ago. I am swimming for me, and for all others going through this. Raising funds for vital research to find a CURE for this disease!

I’m swimming to shine a light on the devastating impact of breast cancer — a disease that takes nine lives every single day. Through this journey, I hope to raise vital funds for research, so we can move closer to a cure and ensure that fewer families have to endure the heartbreak of losing someone they love.

They say a journey begins with a simple step, and here we are almost 365 steps since we first heard of her diagnosis. Women's stories are often heard and not shared, and for this reason, I am swimming for all these women. Thankful to be part of this as we raise money, awareness and the bar for research For Simone L, with Love xx

Kabir
I am volunteering for this swimming challenge because so many lives around me have been touched by breast cancer, from family and friends to inspiring individuals in my community. As a student, I may not be able to fund massive research projects, but I can dedicate my time and effort to this event to honour those who have shown incredible courage and resilience while facing this disease. I'm proud to stand behind every swimmer, every researcher, and every family member, knowing that the awareness we raise and the funds we collect will help ensure better support and life-saving progress in the fight against breast cancer. Every stroke and every donation counts. 💖
Lily
I am swimming for all the lives around me who have been affected by breast cancer. People such as my own aunties, family, friends and anyone else who has been touched by this disease. I am proud to stand behind all of you to fund research, cheer on the people who are fighting and recovering from this disease and the others whose battles were cut short. Every stroke counts. 💗🫶🏼

So many lives around me have been touched by breast cancer — so many amazing people who have shown strength, courage, and resilience. I’m swimming to honour them, to show my support for everyone still fighting, recovering, or remembering someone they’ve lost. Every stroke is a reminder that together, we can help raise awareness and make a difference. 💗
Brent
I will SWIM for all of you. This is the very least I can do for the people who have suffered or are suffering from this shitty disease. I can definitely swim for the nurses who see it day in, day out. I can swim for the kids, partners, siblings and parents who have lost family to this. XX.
Amy
I am swimming for every individual I have walked beside, continue to walk beside and will walk beside on their breast cancer journey 🎀 As a breast cancer nurse, I know how vital research is and I am honoured to do my bit to help in this way 💗

Breast Cancer kills so many men and women. We need to make more people aware
Kerrie O'Rourke
My Beautiful Mum passed away almost 11 weeks ago from Breast Cancer that had matasticized to a mass around her oesophagus. It took her life in a very cruel and painful way. She had breast cancer in 1995 and beat it but this time she could not fight the disease. She fought to live right to her last breath. We need to find a cure for this awful disease. I will swim 40 laps a day of our 50 metre pool in the hope that i can raise money and awareness in our small country town of Warialda
Linda Lodge
I am saddened by those who have lost their fight. I am hoping best wishes and strength for those who are currently fighting. I also know those who have been given the good news post horrible treatment and now their offspring is in danger. Best wishes to all

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Sept 2023. I started treatment in November 2023. I finished my treatment August 2024. My port was removed in September 2024. I commenced my ongoing treatments in October 2024. October 2025, one year now on some pretty nasty drugs. I still have a year to go. I am swimming 6 km because I can. Because I am not one of the nine.

I was diagnosed with de novo metastatic breast cancer this year. I am swimming to help raise awareness between both my family and friends, and to every person suffering from breast cancer
Every day in Australia, nine lives are lost to breast cancer. Nine stories cut short. Nine families changed forever. This November, I will swim 18km in memory of one of them - my mother-in-law, my dearest friend. Her strength, grace, and laughter still echo in the spaces she once filled. She’ll be in my thoughts with every stroke, along with the many families who’ve lost someone they love far too soon.
Nursing student here! Just completed my first 600 metres in memory of my family friend who lost her life to breast cancer, and showing support for all oncology nurses 🩷

Hi everyone, I have friends that have been affected by breast cancer, so I am swimming a minimum of 27km!!!
Swimming 20km for a loved one!!
Natania
I’m swimming 18km this November for them — for those we’ve lost, those still fighting, and those who’ve faced the long road of treatment with incredible strength. Someone close to me went through treatment, and seeing what they endured really opened my eyes to how tough this journey can be. No one should have to face that battle alone, and that’s why I’m raising money for breast cancer research — to help fund better treatments and, one day, a cure.
John
I am swimming to make a difference!
