I'M SWIMMING FOR Mum 🫶🏼
In July this year, my beautiful mum, Lorraine, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Hearing those words was something I never imagined our family would have to face.
Mum underwent a double mastectomy, which thankfully was successful in removing all of her cancer. The relief of hearing she was cancer-free was something I can’t even put into words. I genuinely thought that was the end of the battle, and that from there, things would only get better.
But what I’ve learnt over the past few months is that being cancer-free doesn’t mean the battle is over.
Mum’s recovery has been anything but easy. The complications, the setbacks, the pain, and the emotional toll of it all have been heartbreaking to witness. I’ve come to realise that although the cancer is gone, the effects of what she’s been through may stay with her for the rest of her life.
My mum is the strongest woman I know. She’s always been the one who pushes through everything, who looks after everyone else, and who never lets anything knock her down.
So watching someone I’ve always seen as invincible become so vulnerable has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced.
Because there’s nothing more heartbreaking than watching someone you love go through so much and knowing there’s absolutely nothing you can do to take their pain away.
I wish I could take it all away from her. Every bit of pain, every setback, every difficult day. But I can’t.
What I can do is stand beside her, support her, and remind her just how incredibly loved she is.
I’m beyond grateful that Mum is cancer-free, and I know just how lucky we are. But this journey has opened my eyes to the reality that cancer doesn’t always end when the cancer is gone.
And that’s the part of cancer I don’t think we talk about enough.
This is why I’ve decided to challenge myself to swim 27km for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, in honour of my beautiful mum, everything she’s endured, and every other person and family whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer.
I’ve set myself a fundraising goal of $1,500, and I would be incredibly grateful for any support. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help fund vital breast cancer research.
And to my beautiful mum…
I know this journey has taken so much out of you. But I hope you know that even on the days you don’t feel strong, you are still the strongest woman I know.
You’ve spent my whole life being there for me, and now it’s my turn to show up for you.

This November, I am taking part in Swim For Breast Cancer for the mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and loves ones who are impacted by this devastating disease.
I am doing this to raise funds for National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to support vital breast cancer research to help save lives.
