Half Ironman for the NBCF
2020 brought a number of challenges for my family as my lovely mum Jenny was diagnosed with stage four metastatic breast cancer, her second diagnosis of breast cancer in the last decade. Prior to this my beautiful Aunty Rhonda was diagnosed and taken by an aggressive brain tumour within the year, having also fought breast cancer in the previous few years.
Because of the incredible work done by the National Breast Cancer Foundation and other research facilities in Australia, my Mum has access to treatment that will hopefully give us many more years with her, something that I wouldn’t be able to say if she was given a stage four diagnosis initially eight years ago.
I have decided to attempt the Busselton Half Ironman on the 1st of May this year to raise funds for the NBCF. The Half consists of a 1.9km swim, 90km bike, and 21.1km run. The funds I raise will help the NBCF to undertake this years’ research projects including further understanding breast cancer risk factors, developing new ways to treat and monitor breast cancer, and ultimately save more lives. Currently 8 women lose their lives to breast cancer every day, but the NBCF is working towards zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030, something which I want to contribute towards. Any donation big or small is hugely appreciated!
