Dry Al for Breast Cancer Research

By Allen Wait

I have chosen to make a difference

I have chosen to Give it Up for Breast Cancer. By taking part, I am challenging myself to go without for one month.

I want a world where there are ZERO deaths from breast cancer. I believe every death from breast cancer is one too many. To achieve this, I’m raising funds for more research. All donations made to this page will help do exactly that.

Click 'Donate' to make a secure online donation and help me reach my goal. Every donation, big or small, will help me get there. Please donate today.

All donations over $2 are tax-deductible and you will be issued with a tax-deductible receipt via email as soon as you make your donation.

Thank you so much for your support!

My Updates

Thank you

Friday 29th Jan
Just had a phone call from Emily from National Breast Cancer Research congratulating me for raising $2161. My reply was how grateful I am to all the wonderful people who chipped in and made it possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, you are ALL LEGENDS.

February doesn’t start till Monday so I’ll still be off the grog till then so sorry, I won’t be refunding ????.

Please remember, it’s not too late to donate if not through Dry Al for Breast Cancer Research please consider a reputable charity of your choice.

Again thank you, I am eternally grateful.

Week 3

Friday 22nd Jan

Well, week three has been an interesting week. I’ve has many conversations about why I’ve pick breast cancer research and not more relevant diseases to me such as prostate cancer research and basically it comes down to my choice. Yes I’ve had family and friends effected by different diseases and yes I am empathetic to them all however a decision has to be made as to how to approach cancer and a global approach would be fantastic but unachievable, so I stand by my decision to support breast cancer research.  Another hurdle I’ve faced this week is the mistrust in charities to pass on the donations to the prescribed recipients. Well, that’s the beast that we live with in these days of greed, look at the Government supported corrupt Hillsong Church. With the National Breast Cancer Foundation you have a choice to add a few dollars to your donation to cover administrative costs which indicates to me a much more transparent system.

Anyway, the update. Due to absolute legends the amount raised is now $2161 of which I am eternally grateful. Thank you. There are nine days left so let’s go out swinging.

Please, I ask, if you have a few spare dollars please throw it towards this important charity - BREAST CANCER RESEARCH.

And yes, I’m still off the grog and can’t say I have been craving it or missing it.

Thank you so much for your support.

Week 2 done

Friday 15th Jan

Second week finished and I’d like to send my thanks and gratitude to everyone who has supported breast cancer research. To date $1641 has been raised which is an increase of $583 in the last week.

I’ve had so many conversations about breast cancer and it’s effects on lives and it’s worrying that 100% of the conversations are with people who have been effected by this disease, the empathy I hear in their voices are truely overwhelming.

Please, if you have a few spare bucks please chip in and donate to this very important cause.

On a side note, I’ve abstained from drinking alcohol but will be honest, I am looking forward to a golden ale or 20 in February, plus I’d have to get a bank loan to pay everyone back if I break my vow now. ??

Thank you

Week 1 done and dusted

Thursday 7th Jan

Hey everyone, I hope your first week of 2021 has been absolutely fantastic.

A quick update on Dry Al for Breast Cancer Research. With one week in $1058 has been raised and I’d like to say a very big thank you to everyone who has chipped in to help eliminate Breast Cancer. There’s still three more weeks to go so if you have a few spare bucks please pitch in to make a difference to a lot of beautiful lives.

Again thank you all so so much.

On a personal  note I’ve stayed off the grog and my liver is no longer livid ?? Only three more weeks to go till my next beer ??

Why

Sunday 3rd Jan
I don’t think there is a person on this planet who sadly hasn’t been affected by cancer in some way either directly or indirectly however I just wanted to briefly share my experience with breast cancer and highlight why this journey I have chosen for DRY JANUARY and BREAST CANCER RESEARCH is personal and important to me.

I graduated (if you can call miserably failing everything at school) Bundaberg State High School in 1986, so it was to my surprise 25 years later I received a FB message from a friend I went to school with - Kim. She said in the message that she had a crush on me (god knows why) since high school and she wanted to text me every now and then. I was totally humbled and said sure and this is where our long distance relationship started.  When we started to get to know each other she told me about her struggle with breast cancer and the stresses it had on her and her marriage which unfortunately resulted in divorce. Kim just went though a double mastectomy at that time where it was a big decision for her to decide whether to get breast implants. Kim eventually did because as she said it was the only way she could feel like a woman again even though the process was long and painful. The long phone calls we would have where she would say “FUCK YOU CANCER, WHY ME!” and the frequent checkups which always left her wondering if it has gone or is it coming back were heartbreaking.

Anyway, I’m not going to go though the whole story but I want to highlight the emotional roller coaster breast cancer has on an individual and also family, friends and work colleagues.

This is the reason I have chosen to support breast cancer research with the hope that one day soon breast cancer will be a thing of the past and trust me, staying off the grog for a month is nothing considering what these beautiful people with breast cancer goes through.

So I ask please help out by throwing in a few bucks. This research is important. One comment I’ve had is that they disagree with what the doctors are doing in a way that mastectomies are unnecessarily preformed, and my reply is THIS IS WHY RESEARCH IS IMPORTANT!!

Here we go. Day one

Friday 1st Jan
Well it starts today, two very important goals I have to start 2021 off with a bang. Firstly, dry January, as most people who know me knows I like a beer or 20. I’ve noticed changes in my life as I get older where alcohol is doing way more damage to me than it used to so DRY JANUARY is very important to me.

However what is more important is to reverberate the importance of BREAST CANCER RESEARCH and the need for this disease to be eliminated in all societies.

To date with support of wonderful people $212 has been raised to support BREAST CANCER RESEARCH. My goal is $500 by the end of January but I intend to surpass that considerably.

Please consider throwing in a few bucks for this cause. You have my personal guarantee that all money raised will be refunded out of my pocket if I break my vow for DRY JANUARY.

BTW HAPPY NEW YEAR

Breast Cancer elimination

Sunday 27th Dec

Breast cancer has devastating effects on not only the individual but also on family, friends, work colleagues, well, let’s just say everyone. Breast cancer awareness is important but Breast cancer elimination is the solution.  Please donate for research to help make this possible.  I’m choosing to  as give up grog for January - please consider throwing in a couple of bucks.
