Food-free January for Breast Cancer Research
I have chosen to Go Zero for breast cancer research. For one whole month, I will be giving up something I usually can't go without, food (& alcohol). Sounds extreme, I know, but don’t worry! For the month of January, I will be on a meal replacement fluid regime that will support me nutritionally. I chose this, because anyone who knows me, knows that I LOVE my food & never pass up a snack or alcoholic beverage. This month, I’ll be passing up on all the snacks & delicious foods, to raise awareness for breast cancer & work towards a cure. Why food? Because every woman I’ve met with breast cancer, whether they’re family or a patient, have always suffered similar side effects from treatment... Hair loss, poor immunity, nausea, depression, anxiety, isolation, loss of appetite, & that’s just to name a few... I’ll admit, I’m not brave enough to shave... But in honour of these women, I can go without all the foods I love and enjoy, much like they have to due to chemo side effects, in order to raise money to find a cure. I love my food, & could only imagine how upset I’d be if I couldn’t stomach my favourite foods, but that’s the reality for so many people getting treated for cancer; they lose that sense of normality & I’ve seen how upsetting it can be, which is why I decided to give mine up as well for this cause.
I want a world where there are ZERO deaths from breast cancer. I believe every death from breast cancer is one too many. To achieve this, I’m raising funds for more research.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public.
