October is breast cancer awareness month.
Two years ago, on October 12th, 2019 I lost my beautiful younger sister Nikki to breast cancer at 31 years old. When she was diagnosed, it had already spread and Nikki was diagnosed specifically with Triple Negative Breast Cancer - which equates to just 15% of all breast cancers. It has a low survival rate and is very aggressive. But Nikki fought so hard - and always maintained a positive attitude which is what we hold onto today.
In honour of her birthday in September, and to remember her on this 2nd anniversary, I will be walking 5km per day throughout the month of October, and hoping to raise $330 as she would have been 33 this year. I will be doing this every year based on the age she would have been, even though I already donate to both the NBCF and Breast Cancer Network on a monthly basis.
I don't expect large donations, I was completely blown away by what people donated last year. So please feel free to even donate $5 to this cause - a cause she very much wanted us to support in celebration of her and to aid others in their own fights.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible and you will be issued with a tax-deductible receipt via email as soon as you make your donation.

Cancer sucks. So sorry it robbed your beautiful sister. Glad you are using your grief in a productive way but you are right, it never goes away and the loss needs to be given open space to sit with and acknowledge. I am so proud of the way you have accelerated your growth through this, but it is bittersweet for all the sadness you, and your family have had to endure.
