Chestnut avenue lights for cancer

By Rebecca Ramage

I'm now a Zero Hero

At the age of 28 Emily was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Emily is my best friend and lives her life with Luke and her two young children Indie and Maddix who have been by her side every step of the way. Specialists have supported multiple approaches throughout her extensive treatment which is only made possible through research. In Emily’s case, it is not an “if” but a “when” this cruel disease decides to take her however with continued research and treatment options I feel hopeful that as a result of her treatment she may prolong her time and improve her quality of life with her beloved family.

Christmas is a wonderful time of year, one where we are often reminded of the value of family. Our Christmas lights bring my family joy and if they bring you joy too, please donate. The aim is to fund research so families like Emily’s get the opportunity to share special moments like these together for future years to come.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public.

Click 'Donate' to make a secure online donation and help me reach my goal. Every donation, big or small, will help me get there. Please donate today.

My Updates

Fundraising efforts

Saturday 17th Dec
We are so close to the goal we originally set and I am totally over the moon at the generosity within the community. Every night we are seeing cars pull up and donate whatever cash they can in our donation bucket. Thank you all so much! We weren’t sure how this would go as it is our first time fundraising but we are so proud.

Touching on the reason behind the fundraising, Emily has been undergoing radiation over the last few weeks and has completed her treatment just in time for Christmas with her family. We are hoping and praying that this may work and her follow up scan will show no evidence of disease so that she can have at least a little time without this illness hanging  over her head. I cannot even begin to imagine how difficult it would be raising a family with young children whilst going through this and I wish for a time where this doesn’t occur..

Light set up

Tuesday 22nd Nov
We have been working hard on our weekends getting the lights completed for the Christmas season and we are nearly there. There’s a few more things to do this year as we have decided to encourage donations for breast cancer. We have a few special additions this year that will be the talk of the town and can’t wait to watch the families looking at our display,
Unfortunately the mice have gotten into a few of our lights but that won’t stop us, after all I am so passionate about getting this done! If breast cancer warriors can go through what they do, I’m sure we can live with the minor inconvenience of having to replace what we have lost!
