I've decided to shave my mermaid hair because I want a world where there are ZERO deaths from breast cancer. I believe every death from breast cancer is one too many. To achieve this, I’m raising funds for more research. All donations made to this page will help do exactly that.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public.
I really believe research is the best way to prevent deaths, and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated. NBCF is working towards one goal: zero deaths from breast cancer. Together we can help them get there.

The big day!

For me, breast cancer has hit my family in many different ways. My family lost my beautiful cousin Flora at the age of 56, my Yiayia (grandmother) had it twice and is still going strong at 90 after multiple rounds of chemotherapy and surgeries, and my own mother had a scare two years ago that tested us greatly. I also had many friends with similar stories that further pushed me to do something that might help make a difference.
A few years back, I had raised around $500, and I dyed my hair pink; it was not that outrageous for me, and I'm not surprised the donations were small. I thought about whether or not I would have the guts to shave my head and whether that would have more of an impact and decided that I would take the plunge and see what would happen. When it came to setting up my fundraiser page, I kept my hopes low and started it at my last target goal of $500 again. Within half an hour, I completed the goal and kept increasing the numbers. After a week, I reached $1000, so I decided to keep going and reach higher by putting my end goal of $2,000, which was reached by shave day on 3 December.
I'd be lying if I said my stomach dropped when I got the first few donations in, it made it real, and I had to commit to it. I was incredibly nervous about what I would look like and what people would think. What stopped me from thinking this way was the reminder that it’s the absolute least I could do in solidarity with people who have gone through this and will go through this and those who have no choice whether they keep their hair
