Meg's Big Canberra Walk

By Megan Boyd

I'm proud to be a Zero Hero

Everyone who knows me knows that I am a couch potato. I love to lounge, lollop and laze. But when I found out that my beautiful aunt Pip had breast cancer, I decided it was time to do something productive and meaningful to counteract a situation that felt pretty rubbish.

And, I have decided to 'Go big or go home'!!

I will be walking the Canberra Centenary Trail - that is a 145km loop all around the urban and rural landscape of Canberra - in 7 days between Easter and ANZAC day in 2019.  It's an average of 20km a day, the shortest leg is 14.5km and the longest leg is 28km. That's a lot of steps for a pair of legs, but I'm determined. I have never done anything like this before and I am nervous, but I am excited and I mean business.

Is this nuts? Abso-frickin-lutely. Will it be achievable? Abso-frickin-lutely! With some grit, determination, hard-work, training, meditation, sweat and probably blood and tears, too, this is something that I can do. It feels like a small challenge compared to the challenge of fighting cancer or the challenge of researching new or improved cancer-busting treatments.

My parents will be walking some (or maybe all!) of this with me in solidarity. The support will be so greatly appreciated and it will be impressive for all three of us if we can achieve this!

I'm also taking on this challenge because I share NBCF's goal of ZERO deaths from breast cancer. I believe every death from breast cancer is one too many. To achieve this, I’m raising funds for research. All donations made to this page will help do exactly that.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public.

I believe research is the best way to prevent deaths, and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated. NBCF is working towards one goal: zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. Together we can help them get there.

Click 'Donate' to make a secure online donation and help me reach my goal. Every donation, big or small, will help me get there. Please donate today.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible and you will be issued with a tax-deductible receipt via email as soon as you make your donation.

Thank you so much for your support!
