I've decided to cut and donate my hair to help raise funds for breast cancer research. All donations made to this page will help do exactly that.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public.
My beautiful mum Tania was diagnosed with breast cancer towards the end of 2022. It was detected at her routine mammogram appointment at BreastScreen Tasmania. She had no symptoms or lumps.
Women aged between 50 and 74 years are invited to have a free breast screen every 2 years with BreastScreen Australia. You can still have a free mammogram if you’re aged between 40 and 49 years, or 75 years and over – you just won’t receive an invitation in the mail.
Screening mammograms are used to find breast cancers early, before they can be seen or felt. The earlier breast cancer is found, the better the chances of surviving it.
All money raised will go to NBCF directly, and my hair will be donated to Sustainable Salons, which distributes donated ponytails to charities and local wigmakers where they can become wigs for people going through medically induced hair-loss conditions such as alopecia and cancer.
