Hugh's hair is too basic

By Hugh Dircks

I'm now a Zero Hero

Hey Friends!

Help me turn my hair from Basic to Extra.

Why?!

Well, in 2020, Georgina joined the ranks of women who have beaten breast cancer.

This was an exhausting, courageous, relentless thing to do, and was only possible through the support of so many doctors, nurses, scientists, family and friends. One of the groups involved during Georgina's treatment was the NBCF.

We have seen how research enabled Georgina's survival - whether the new cancer targeting medications, new tests to find and understand the cancer or the new approaches to patient care.

We want a world where there are ZERO deaths from breast cancer.

We believe every death from breast cancer is one too many.

To this end, I am asking for your help to raise funds to accelerate research in the prevention, treatment and cure of breast cancer. Every donation, big or small, will help me get there.

Of the many groups working in this space I have chosen to partner with The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). The NBCF directly worked with many of the hospitals and doctors who treated Georgina. I've left some more info about them at the end of this post.

Please help me reach my goal and donate today - simple click 'Donate.'

All online donations are handled securely and directly by the NBCF.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible and you will be emailed a tax-deductible receipt.

Thank you so much for your support!

PINK DAY

Tuesday 27th Oct
Hi All,

with only a few days of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) left, my hair has been transformed.
From boofy, scraggly locks that covered my ears and added 15cm to my height...to THIS.

Thankyou all SO much for your support.
Massively exceeded my initial goals.
SO glad to partner with you to raise funds for the NBCF. Champions!

'Before' - my Iso-hair

Sunday 18th Oct
Hi All,

thought you might get a giggle out of how long and goofy my hair has gotten during lockdown.
As you can imagine I am really looking forward to getting it under control.
I am also terrifically excited about turning it pink.

Lockdown has been hard in all kinds of ways but I wanted to ask you to spare a thought for the people who have been undergoing treatment for breast cancer during 2020.
There are all kinds of additional risks and precautions and challenges for people who need life saving medical care during a pandemic.

The science supported by the NBCF and others helps not only with drug discovery.
Not only with better and earlier detection.
But with understanding how to make it safer and better to work with patients during their care.

Thank you all for your support.
Now look at that crazy long hair again.
So goofy!
And soon, very soon....SO PINK

LOCKDOWN...thankyou for your patience

Thursday 1st Oct
HI lovely supporters.
You helped smash both my initial goal and my stretch goal within a week!
Thankyou to everyone who has donated since then, and taken us even further.

With Stage 4 lockdown still in place for another few weeks I have pushed back the date of the event.
My hair is now the longest it has ever been.
Definitely puts me in contention for the 'Mad Scientist' look

Will keep you more regularly updated from now until the event - so stay tuned!!!

Stretch goal?

Wednesday 12th Aug
HI amazing supporters - I want to say a loud 'thankyou' to everyone who has already donated.

The initial goal was SMASHED in 24 hours.

I am raising the bar - and asking for your input on what I might do in addition to going PINK if we reach the new target.
All reasonable (and many unreasonable) suggestions will be seriously considered :)

WHOA!

Tuesday 11th Aug
We are already past the 1/2 way mark of the initial goal ($800) - after less than 24 hours!

Thankyou all so much.
