Jodie's Journey

By My Pathway Team

I'm now a Zero Hero

We're hosting an event because we want a world where there are ZERO deaths from breast cancer. We believe every death from breast cancer is one too many. To achieve this, We're raising funds for more research. All donations made to this page will help do exactly that.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public.

We really believe research is the best way to prevent deaths, and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated. NBCF is working towards one goal: zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. Together we can help them get there.

Click 'Donate' to make a secure online donation and help me reach my goal. Every donation, big or small, will help me get there. Please donate today.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible and you will be issued with a tax-deductible receipt via email as soon as you make your donation.

Thank you so much for your support!

Jodie's Journey- Jodies personal story

Wednesday 3rd Jul

To put this into context, I wrote this post back in April.

So where to start...this post will be a shock for some, I have deliberated about sharing My Journey, however by doing so, hopefully it will help us all become more aware.

I guess the best place to start is at the beginning....in early February I found a lump in my left breast....kept it to myself for a week (hoped it would go away). Was booked in for a Pap Smear on 15th (day before twins 21st)....discussed it with my Dr. The following Friday I went to have it investigated (ultrasound, mammogram...literally the works). As it turns out, another lump was found, biopsies were done (lucky the one that they found, turned out to be nothing) Ahhhh but the one I found wasn’t, so the journey begins....I was booked in for surgery (lumpectomy) during this procedure another cancer was found sitting alongside my first one, lymph nodes were removed. Now the wait....then the results....cancer was found in my lymph nodes. Well that wasn’t in the plan, changed the treatment plan - chemo is now involved.

Currently my treatment plan is 1 every 3 weeks (4 cycles), I started this on 9 May, and will have the last of this lot next week 11 July.  From there I start a new treatment plan, which 1 every week for 12 weeks, this will start on 1 August.   After that I will be having radiation which is 1 every work day for 6 weeks (starting approx. mid Nov).

Am I ready for this...you bet

Am I positive...you bet

Am I lucky....you bet

Why....because early detection, didn’t ignore it!!!

This event has been initially inspired by our CEO vowing to shave his head to show his support but then grew to become an opportunity to increase awareness.

The awareness surrounding self check is the most important part of the Jodie’s Journey event… I had a mammogram in October (regular scheduled one, every 2 years) nothing was picked up, so I am for ever grateful that I do a self check and did something about it. (This is my little preach about self checking and doing something about it)

In creating this event, we wanted to be able to share Jodie’s personal journey and to increase understanding of how to Cheeky Check yourself!

I also want to say a huge thank you to all the medical professionals I have met so far and of course to everyone who has shown their love and support throughout this Journey.   Also to everyone that has contributed today to making this event happen.... you are all amazing and wonderful people.

Stay tuned.......
