Sophie goes Pink 2021!

By Sophie Fontana

I'm now a Zero Hero

I've decided to colour my hair because I want a world where there are ZERO deaths from breast cancer. I also believe that we can do better at helping women and men get through treatment and so raising money for better treatment is important to me. To achieve this, I’m raising funds for more research. All donations made to this page will help do exactly that.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public.

I really believe research is the best way to prevent deaths, and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated. NBCF is working towards one goal: zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. Together we can help them get there.

Click 'Donate' to make a secure online donation and help me reach my goal. Every donation, big or small, will help me get there. Please donate today.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible and you will be issued with a tax-deductible receipt via email as soon as you make your donation.

Thank you so much for your support!

My Story

Tuesday 21st Sep
My Breast Cancer journey started on 21 August 2018 when my GP confirmed what was obvious, I had Breast Cancer! After being referred to a Breast Surgeon, there was a whirlwind of more blood test, CT scans, MRIs, more biopsies before a treatment plan was decided on.

Off to surgery for a mastectomy of my left breast and inserting a tissue expander so that I could have a tram flap reconstruction once I had completed further treatment. My further treatment included 6 months of Chemotherapy and 25 sessions of Radiation. It was the longest 7 months of my life and I was so glad to see the end of it.

After relocating from Sydney (4 weeks after my last radiation session) to Brisbane, I picked back up with my reconstruction plans. However that was delayed thanks to two things, 1. waiting for a year post radiation and 2. COVID-19. Finally on 24 June 2021 I had my reconstruction surgery and now 12 weeks later I am almost through the worst of the recovery. Let me tell you, nothing compared to getting through radiation treatment.
