I've made a pledge to GO PINK!

July marks 10 long years since we said goodbye to Mum and last saw that amazing smile. 10 years of birthdays, Christmases and Mothers Days without her with us. 10 years of adventures, milestones and celebrations that we've not been able to share.

No girl should have to go through some of the biggest years of her life without her Mum, so for the month of June I'm going pink.
After Mum lost her hair for the second time, I offered to shave mine in solidarity. She shot me down within half a second and made me swear to never shave my 'beautiful long blonde hair', so I'm doing the next best thing and dying it pink!
Feel free to join me. All it takes is wearing a touch of pink to start the conversation around Breast Cancer and self checking. We were lucky Mum caught hers early, which gave us 9 memorable years since her diagnosis.

This June, the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is challenging all Australians to make a pledge and GO PINK to raise funds in support of the thousands of women and men whose lives have been - and will be - impacted by breast cancer.

I've made a pledge to WEAR IT, SHAVE IT or COLOUR IT and raise funds for game-changing research into early detection and preventative treatments for breast cancer, which is vital to increasing survival rates.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. Almost 20,000 women and men will be diagnosed this year. That’s 55 Australians every single day. Since NBCF’s inception in 1994, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer has increased from 76% to 91%. It’s proof that their strategy of investing in world-class research is working. However 8 women still lose their lives from breast cancer each day – mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts and friends.

Please donate to my page and you’ll be helping the National Breast Cancer Foundation step closer to their goal: zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.

YOU can make a difference. Let me know if you want to GO PINK with me!

My Updates

Raffle is live

Wednesday 2nd Jun
I spoke to Pa (Mum’s Dad) tonight to tell him I was fundraising for the NBCF and we got talking about Mum. If you’ve ever heard Pa talk about her, it’s something you’ll never forget.
His eyes light up when anyone mentions her, and he will always brag about how her first boss said, ‘Sharon Smitham was the best worker I’ve ever had; never late, willing to stay back, and always putting other’s needs ahead of her own’. You’ll hear him mention how proud he was when she took on the running of a household of five people at the age of 14 due to her own mother’s illness and how selfless she was with everything she did. And he will never, ever, leave out the words ‘your Mum… she wasn’t just one in a million. She was one in billion’.
She is my why. The reason I’m helping the NBCF to reach their target of zero deaths from Breast Cancer by 2030. I’ve been blown away by everyone’s support so far and am happy to share that the raffle is now live!
Thank you all! xx
