I'm challenging myself to run a half marathon on May 30th & setting myself a challenge to raise money for NBCF and world-class breast cancer research for my beautiful friend Jess!
My dear friend Jess was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in September 2020. She knew something was not right with her breast for a long time and was turned away three times by GPs. She is now battling the biggest battle of her life.... I often wonder what would have happened if they'd listened to her on her first GP visit all that time ago - but we can't live our lives thinking about the "what ifs".
Jess has been diagnosed with the very rare Triple Negative form of Breast Cancer. Triple Negative Breast Cancer is considered to be more aggressive and have a poorer prognosis than other types of breast cancer. It is more likely to spread beyond the breast and come back after treatment.
The only way to prevent deaths and improve the diagnosis of breast cancer in the future is through research. The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public. As I hit the pavement on May 30th and push my body to its absolute limits, I will be thinking of Jess and the strength she has shown in confronting pain that is far, far worse than a half marathon.
