I've made a pledge to WEAR PINK!
In December 2020, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, luckily it was early enough and hadn't spread to my lymph nodes.
I underwent surgery in January 2021 and am nearly finished chemotherapy before I start radiation therapy in June this year.
I consider myself quite lucky that it was identified early and for the support I have received from my husband, family, friends and workplace.
I am pledging to step outside my comfort zone of black, grey and uniform green and wear pink for the entire month of June. I am doing this to raise funds for game-changing research into early detection and preventative treatments for breast cancer, which is vital to increasing survival rates.
To keep me honest I will be uploading a daily photo of my outfit. The McCann women have also got involved and because they all have hair still, have mostly pledged to go pink and dye their hair.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. Almost 20,000 people will be diagnosed this year. That’s 55 Australians every single day. Since NBCF’s inception in 1994, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer has increased from 76% to 91%. It’s proof that their strategy of investing in world-class research is working. However 8 women still lose their lives from breast cancer each day – mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts and friends.
If you have the capacity to spare a few dollars, I ask that you please donate to my page or my team page and help the National Breast Cancer Foundation step closer to their goal: zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.
YOU can make a difference. Let me know if you want to GO PINK with me!
