I'm Stepping Up To Breast Cancer

This August, the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is challenging all Australians to come together to Step Up to Breast Cancer.

I've stepped up to the challenge to complete 10,000 steps every day throughout the month and raise money for vital breast cancer research.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. This year 20,825 Australians will be diagnosed. That is why I have stepped up to the challenge to help fund the future of research and change these stats.

Please donate to my page and you’ll be helping the National Breast Cancer Foundation take one step closer to reaching their goal of Zero Deaths From Breast Cancer by 2030.

YOU can make a difference. Let me know if you want to Step Up to Breast Cancer with me!

My Updates

Finishing the month off with a bang!!

Monday 30th Aug

With two days to go of our Step Up to Breast Cancer challenge I wanted to capture how much this fundraiser has meant before a new month dawns and the challenge is completed.

Our small town of Kyneton is a very special place.  Affectionately referred to as Kindtown it really is no surprise that the community has got behind one of our much loved ladies to show support. After an arduous 4 year battle with cancer, our brave, wonderful and strong Nicole Strang epitomises the word of courage. And during this month a demonstration of the wide spread love that she brings everyone she knows has been reciprocated in donations, good deeds and rallying by our community (and beyond) to help Nic smash her $20,000 target. We started the month walking freely in our large loud group of ladies, with kids laughing and dogs playing. Excited about the opportunity to come together and make a contribution to a charity that works tirelessly helping people suffering with a disease that has touched too many of our lives, cancer. We walked our river walk and discussed what we could contribute outside of finding donations. However we soon went back into lockdown but spirits were definitely not dampened. Instead, here is where the bush telegraph of love came into full swing.

In a time when so many small businesses are hurting, cafes and restaurants are closed and the future of many entrepreneurs hangs in the wind. We were humbled by the acts of "can do" people who jumped on board to help. Dame Yung, a fabulous t-shirt design company run by two dynamic  young locals was the first with a generous offer to design and donate pink t-shirts for TeamStrang to wear proudly. Word soon got out and the whole town bought the limited edition t-shirts with the DameYung team generously donating 100% of the profits to #teamStrang. Over the next two weeks we saw food businesses jump on board with Fed and Piper Street Food company raising donations and awareness of the team's mission. Granite Hills Winery auctioned packs of incredible wines and magnums to get us through lockdown (and home-schooling), luxury accommodation site auctioned a weekend away, Accessory label Frankie&Mac created a ton of beautiful bespoke ear rings, we had Realhomefoods sell jam and a ton of generous individuals and businesses get behind the team and pledge generous donations and messages of support. The girls of #TeamStrang felt luck was on their side and even involved the horses, putting a few punts on Saturdays races to raise donations!

And as the steps were pounded out on every bush track, pavement and street in Kyneton the feeling of togetherness grew.

Yesterday musician and legendary local singer, Taylor Sheridan clad in a pink DameYung TeamStrang t-shirt, put on a live concert over Facebook. Taylor's heart-warming performance lifted spirits and further sent out the message of love and support to Nicole, Aiden and their beautiful family. With two more days to go, and still more generous donations rolling in achieving our target is a certainty. But what has also been achieved is the knowledge that in undoubtedly an extremely tough year, for everyone, that we have each other's backs. We are a strong and supportive community and even when the world seems a little crazy, we can still be kind to one another and achieve something much greater together than we can on our own.

Starting off Strong for #teamstrang

Sunday 1st Aug

After yet another rainy, cold night, the sun shone and the temperature gauge sailed beyond zero in Kyneton for our first team walk.

With greater precision than the Olympian javelin team our enthusiastic team members synchronised our meet up at HQ (Monsieur Pierres, Kyneton), Uluru and Melbourne to kick off day one of our monumental fundraiser for the @nbcf and our very own Nicole Strang.

Like all strong teams we had our superfuel of caffeine and mascot Maisey to lead the soldiers in to our early morning 10k of stepping up to cancer.

Kids in tow and the winter sun on our backs gave us the strength, hope and determination to tackle the river walk and dog dodging trail that will become our sacred training ground for the next month. Like our Australian Olympians we also performed bravely without our crowd but armed, masked up and armoured with utter determination that today will be the first of many outstanding performances for #TeamStrang

Well done darling. You’re a bloody legend!

Well done Jen and all you beautiful ladies involved. There would be one more helping the cause if she was here, but in her place we will donate and keep hoping for a cure. Thanks for all that you are doing to fight cancer and support those who are battling. Much love ❤️
