Everyone should be so lucky
In 1995 I was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, which at that time had a very low survival rate. I was incredibly lucky to be part of a human trial for one of the very first targeted cancer drugs. This drug transformed the prognosis of this type of leukaemia from one of the worst to one of the best and today 90% of patients survive.
I have recently been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, the only type of breast cancer that does not yet have its own targeted drug, and once again have been extremely lucky to be invited onto a trial for an immunotherapy drug that could be a game-changer for this disease.
I am shaving my hair on 24th March to raise money for research to find these great leaps forward so that as many people as possible can go on to have long, happy lives after cancer. NB My hair is going to fall out over the next few months anyway - only fair to say!
