My 55 Squat Challenge for breast cancer research
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. Almost 20,000 women and men will be diagnosed this year. That’s 55 Australians every single day. 8 women lose their lives from breast cancer each day – mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts and friends.
I am taking on the 55 Squat Challenge in support of the 55 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer every day in Australia and raising funds for breast cancer research to help change the stats.
I lost my mother to breast cancer when I was 11. Every day I remember her struggle and her strength that empowered her to continue every day for three years. She had stage four breast cancer presented in the liver. Despite the wonderful support of her doctors and nurses she lost that battle in June of 2013 and that day will live fresh in my mind the rest of my life. This March I will be completing the 55 squat challenge with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to support their attempts to achieve zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.
