Ana’s Pink Ribbon Breakfast

My Pink Ribbon Breakfast 25/10/2020

This year I am hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast because I want to make a real difference to Australians affected by breast cancer. All donations made to this page will help do exactly that.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public.

I really believe research is the best way to prevent deaths, and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated. NBCF is working towards one goal: zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. Together we can help them get there.

Click 'Donate' to make a secure online donation and help me reach my goal. Every donation, big or small, will help me get there. Please donate today.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible and you will be issued with a tax-deductible receipt via email as soon as you make your donation.

Thank you so much for your support!

My Journey

Monday 17th Aug
Thank you for being a part of my Pink Ribbon Breakfast. This is a cause very close to my heart.
Breast cancer first impacted my life when my sister was diagnosed in July 2016. Her oncologist advised she should be tested for a faulty BRCA and she tested positive to BRCA2. This means a genetic fault coming from our family background.
This led to me being tested for the faulty gene and I was also positive to BRCA2.
We were all shocked to say the least, as there was no evident family history that we could trace back the reasoning to all of this....
I was advised annual screening was best involving MRI, Ultrasound and Mammogram.
In November 2017 during my screening, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
Life has never been the same, after surgery and 5 grueling months of chemotherapy treatment I started on hormonal treatment and ongoing monthly injections.
Almost 3 years later I am just about to face surgery again to remove my ovaries and still face the check ups, blood tests and further preventative surgery ahead, the road never seems to end.
Last year my sisters condition worsened and she lost her battle in February this year, 2020.
Life has never felt the same since cancer entered my world, I still struggle to comprehend how this horrible disease took my best friend away and stole her of seeing her beautiful children grow up...
We both always had said to each other one day we would tell our story together but that didn't happen.
So this year I feel to remember my beautiful sister, to remember how hard she fought and to acknowledge  the importance of Breast Cancer Research, I would host my own Pink Ribbon Breakfast, so that one day we will have 0 deaths from Breast cancer...
The importance of research is fundamental for our children's future and their children's future.
Having a daughter, I often wonder of the future, having the BRCA2 gene in our family is daunting and the key to finding a cure for Breast cancer is crucial.
My only wish is that no one ever has to endure any of these horrible treatments, the painful surgeries, ongoing hormonal treatments, which in turn have horrible side effects, all these things change your life forever.
