12 MARATHONS 12 WEEKS

As a few close friends will know my mum has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Chemotherapy has a Part A and part B schedule of which Part B consists of 12 weekly treatments. For each of these 12 weeks I am going to run a marathon. Across this time, I am aiming to raise $12,000 for The National Breast Cancer Foundation. The NBCF uses our funding to improve detection, prevention, quality of life and new treatments through research. I have donated $1,000 to start this journey and ask that you donate through the link in my profile and share this page. I will continue to update and document the 12 marathons through the blogs here or can follow me on strava https://www.strava.com/athletes/3189764.

Marathon 12 of 12

Monday 9th Oct
THE FINAL RUN

An incredible journey over the last three months to get the finish line. Have met some incredible people across the time, had experiences I never could have imagined and now ready for some rest. Had support of the most amazing people running 4 laps of 10km every hour on Sunday 8th. Can't express how much it means to me and having raised more than $35,000 is incredible.

Wednesday 4th Oct
The final stretch.

An emotional and fantastic run. Met some great people and great conversations along the run. Felt fantastic and ended up heading out for a 10km trail run in the afternoon, brining the daily total to 53km. We are so close to the goal of $12,000 and I can't thank everyone enough. Time to bring it home with one more to go!

Marathon 10 of 12

Saturday 30th Sep
Well that was by far and large the toughest one yet. Woken up feeling extremely flat and lacking energy. Started off well for the first 10km then was all down hill from there. Ended up being a walk/jog for the remaining 32km and no extra distance.

Marathon 9 of 12

Monday 18th Sep
What an event #9 was!

Mates were running 6 laps (5.4km) of newfarm park every hour for 24 hours raising money for men's mental health. The earliest wake up for me at 12:50am to get running across the last 4 odd hours with the boys as they made a total of 130km! Fantastic to see others out raising money for causes that are near and dear to them.

Marathon 8 of 12

Monday 11th Sep
Two months of weekly marathons dusted off!

Into the last month! Four marathons to go!
The final stretch to bring it home! Number 8, a little slower with some very sore feet. 43km in 3:54:09 with again the early start beating the 3am alarm by 1 minute. The end is in sight and I am absolutely amped to get after these last four.

Marathon 7 of 12

Monday 4th Sep
The second half is underway!

In a strong rhythm now. Used to the early stats, waking up with energy and raring to go. Again, hit the pavement running at 3:41am, completing 44.4km in 3:53:41. After some incredible foot pain from last weeks marathon, it was nice that it settled down for #7. Feeling strong again.

Marathon 6 of 12

Monday 28th Aug
HALF WAY!

Have ticked over the half way mark and have put a dent in the challenge now. A total of 270.9km averaging 45.15km for each Sunday run. Was amped for marathon six and was up before 3am hitting along the brisbane river at 3:37am for another 46.4km ultra in 3:57:29.

Now to do it all over again.

Marathon 5 of 12

Monday 21st Aug
Nearly half way!

Had a little extra in the tank for this run, getting a little ultra-marathon (45km) completed in 3:51:27. Again, an early start off and runnnig at 3:55am. In a great rhythm and looking forward to getting stuck into the back half of this challenge.


Marathon 4 of 12

Tuesday 15th Aug
One third of the way done! Four down and eight to go!

Finding a rhythm with these now. An extra early start, up at 3:14am to hit the left and rights at 4:00am, finishing up in 3:41:25. The body is starting to adapt and the pain has reduced. Starting to add in a few recovery runs across the week to keep the pins moving and blood flowing. 

Excited to get through the rest. One week, one marathon at a time.

Marathon 3 of 12

Tuesday 15th Aug
Another marathon in the books! Another early start at 3:30am to get running just after 4:00am in the morning. Was a tough one getting through the back end but made it through in a time of 3:38:49. The fastest one yet. A cracking sunrise and some good company in the last 10km helped get it done.

Marathon 2 of 12

Thursday 3rd Aug
Second marathon was an early start - up just before 4am to get running along the Brisbane river at 4:40am. Was certainly a painful run having done the 52km last week. Ended finishing up in 3:44:12 - a much welcomed change from the 6+ hour ultra.

Already blown away with the support and having raised $4,000+ within these first two weeks of running. A massive thank you to all that have donated! Looking forward to some more early starts and long runs.

Marathon 1 of 12

Monday 24th Jul
Saturday 22nd of July. 

Marathon #1.

Hit the trails for a 52.6km ultra marathon at The Guzzler - a local brisbane endruance race. An incredible experience to run a great race and do so to support an amazing cause. Came away with a 36th place finish in 6:11:22. Thankfully, this will have been one of if not the the most challenging of the 12 marathons with 2000m+ of elevation. Looking foward to getting stuck in to the remaining marathons.
