Celebrate innovation this Science Week (14 - 22 August) and raise funds to help make Zero Deaths from breast cancer a reality.
1 in 7 women and 1 in 726 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. More than 20,000 Australians will be diagnosed this year: 55 mothers, daughters, aunties, sisters and friends diagnosed with breast cancer every single day.
Now more than ever science is vital for changing health outcomes for all Australians. By hosting a science-themed morning tea or activity in your school, workplace or social club you can support innovative Australian research that can change the future for women and men impacted by breast cancer.
Celebrate innovation with us this August and help fund the future of science to save lives today.
HOW IT WORKS
HAVE FUN AND COLLECT DONATIONS
Every dollar you raise helps to make zero deaths from breast cancer a reality.
Fun fundraising ideas that celebrate innovation
HOLD A MORNING TEA
Gather your students, friends or workmates and celebrate innovation by holding a science-themed morning tea. The theme for this year’s Science Week is Food: Different by design – why not create imaginative healthy treats that celebrate science to sell for a donation. If you're not able to be together hold a get together over Zoom.
HOST A SCIENCE QUIZ
An idea that works in person and online, why not celebrate innovation with a game of science-themed trivia! Offer a prize for the most knowledgeable and charge a donation to take part. Include questions on breast cancer to let everyone know why research is so vital to changing the stats. Click here for some stats about breast cancer.
ARTS FOR SCIENCE
Perfect for students or just for the artistic among you, why not celebrate innovaton with a science-themed art competition. Challenge your students, colleagues or friends to create an artwork with the theme of celebrating science, award a prize for the best one and auction off the entries to raise funds.
STRAWBERRY DNA
Get your students, colleagues or friends excited about science with this experiment to extract the DNA from strawberries! Click here to download a How-To and celebrate innovation with something practical and fun! Charge a donation to take part and award a prize for the person who gets the best result.
BLUE SKY IDEAS
Why not choose a problem in your school or workplace that requires a solution led by your students or colleagues? Celebrate innovation with a competition for most imaginative project or idea, with a donation to take part and a reward for the most creative solution. The answer could surprise you!
Why celebrate Science Week?
'More than half the treatments I'm using today weren't around when I was in medical school. Transformation is happening at a rapid pace. But while we've had a lot of success, there's a lot more to be done.'

AUSTRALIANS
WILL BE DIAGNOSED
IN 2021
This increase is largely due to longer life expectancy, population growth, improved detection methods and also lifestyle changes. Directly or indirectly - more Australian families are likely to be affected by breast cancer than any other type of cancer. While research has told us a lot about what can affect breast cancer risk, more research is required to learn more about the different causes of breast cancer.
Research is the best way to stop deaths from breast cancer.
